Friday - Ephesians 1:19-23
"19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, uaccording to the working of vhis great might 20 that he worked in Christ wwhen he raised him from the dead and xseated him at his right hand yin the heavenly places, 21 zfar above aall rule and authority and power and dominion, and above bevery name that is named, not only in cthis age but also in the one to come. 22 And dhe put all things under his feet and gave him asehead over all things to the church, 23 fwhich is his body, gthe fullness of him hwho fills iall in all." - Ephesians 1:19-23

Paul started in the last set of verses asking that our eyes are opened to the hope we have in the completed work of Christ. He continues here asking that we also see the immense power and work of God the Father, who placed Christ over the church. And that Christ's position is to be our all in all. He should be the fulfillment of all our needs and desires. But we see in ourselves and our people that is not necessarily the case. Who or what do you look to in times of need? Is it Facebook, our children, alcohol or television, food or work. These are questions we as leaders need to ask of our people and ourselves regularly for no other reason than to continually point ourselves to Christ and His completed work.
ReplyDeleteAs we read yesterday and today's passages, we saw that Paul is encouraging believers to keep growing spiritually and to continue on the journey that began at the point of salvation. We need to live our lives in a way that shows Christ is our all in all. This is a challenge because, like Chris said, we tend to turn to worldly comforts. We as a body of believers should point each other to Christ and remind each other of who He is, not just in times of need but in all times and all things.
ReplyDeleteGod is above all and over all! He is the head of the church; his church. We are to submit to his authority and leadership as Christ followers first and then is a natural flow or result.
ReplyDeleteI have been reminded throughout Chapter 1 that we are: 1)Chosen by the father; 2)Redeemed by the Son; and 3)Sealed by the Holy Spirit. It's awesome that God loves us that much! We took Evan to college this past weekend, and on Sunday they had a Church Service for the incoming class and parents. The message was about making the right choices and where you should spend your time..in other words, spend time with God and don't let other people/things get you off course! By the way, the message was for the students AND the parents.
